Études sur la Jalousie
study
“Études sur la Jalousie” are 21 small studies of the gaze — reaching for the other, folding against one’s own shutters, half vision, half reflection, suspended between desire and blindness. Each étude is a step, a passage between closeness and resistance, between desire and loss. Strict, reduced, repeated – yet swollen with the melancholy of an ego that inflates, overreaches, and drowns in its own sentiment.”

Études sur la Jalousie
21 étapes
I. Approche – Approach
The seemingly innocent: the first contact, the approach. Still curiosity, still expectation.
1.Regard détourné (Averted gaze) – The fascination of beginnings, when a body becomes a projection surface.
2. Saisie brutale (Sudden grasp) – Forcing closeness to quiet the fear of loss.
3. L’illusion de l’union (Illusion of union) – The false sense that merging can erase separation.
II. Mur – Wall
Closeness turns into limitation; the wall is not protection but a boundary.
4. Contre le mur (Against the wall) – The other reduced to a captured object without space.
5. Refuge et obstacle (Refuge and obstacle) – Shelter collapses into confinement, intimacy becomes narrowness.
6. Lignes de fuite (Vanishing lines) – The gaze seeks escape routes, yet the wall remains.
III. Chuchotement – Whisper
Words that do not build trust but carry threat and suspicion.
7. Souffle rapproché (Close breath) – Proximity that suffocates instead of supporting.
8. Mots étouffés (Muffled words) – The voice of jealousy: accusations that never reach the other.
9. Le secret partagé (Shared secret) – Whispering that means control, not intimacy.
IV. Flou – Blur
Perception smears, projection replaces the other.
10. Visages confondus (Faces merging) – Faces blur, identity dissolves into haze.
11. Geste suspendu (Suspended gesture) – Every movement freezes, trapped in suspicion.
12. L’effacement (Erasure) – The other vanishes, leaving only projection.
V. Choc – Clash
Desire collapses into violence.
13. Impact – The collision of longing and possession.
14. Résistance (Resistance) – Opposition splits the bond open.
15. Désordre (Disorder) – Bodies in chaos, desire breaking into violence.
VI. Ombre – Shadow
The other reduced to a silhouette.
16. Contour incertain (Uncertain outline) – The other is nothing but a wavering shape.
17. Présence cachée (Hidden presence) – Presence transforms into absence.
18. Double projeté (Projected double) – The shadow becomes more important than the person.
VII. Silence – Silence
The end, where only muteness remains.
19. Avant le cri (Before the cry) – The final moment before the rupture.
20. Éloignement (Withdrawal) – Distance is complete; no gaze can reach the other.
21. Fin suspendue (Suspended end) – What remains is silence, not the other, only the echo of one’s own pain.
21 Études
The music is quiet. Simple, yet intricate. It circles, repeats, folds back on itself. Seven chapters, but each could stand in place of the other. The last track could be the first. The order is irrelevant, because jealousy has no sequence. It isn’t a story but a loop – the ego watching, desiring, distorting itself.
The 21 Études are variations and reflections, each a fragment of the same loop. They show how the ego swells in its own melancholy, feeding on itself until nothing remains but distortion and silence. Music and images become studies of a feeling that consumes itself.
